Michigan Murder Suspects Caught In Mexico After 8 Years On The Run Sent To Prison

GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ/AP) - Two men who spent eight years on the run following a 2007 slaying in the Grand Rapids area have been sentenced.

Juan Reyes, 27, on Wednesday was given life in prison in Kent County Circuit Court for second-degree murder in the fatal drive-by shooting of 22-year-old Douglas Pollok, according to The Grand Rapids Press. Reyes also got prison time for other charges.

Reyes, who was accused of firing the shots, asked the judge for leniency saying he has "fully given my heart to Jesus Christ." Reyes was arrested in November along with his brother, Eric Santiago, in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Santiago, 31, was also sentenced on Wednesday to a year in jail for being an accessory after the fact to a felony. Santiago was accused of driving the vehicle Reyes was in. He apologized before being sentenced, saying he was "terribly sorry for what happened."

Genevieve Pollok, the victim's sister, told the brothers "they will burn in hell for what they did," according to the newspaper.
