18-Year-Old Monroe Man Charged With Stalking, Arson, Home Invasion
MONROE (WWJ) - An 18-year-old Monroe Township man is behind bars after authorities say he broke into a home and threatened to set himself and the place on fire.
Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone says it happened at around 8:20 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, in the 4200 block of Kane Rd. in Exeter Township.
Deputies got a 911 call from a young women who said her ex-boyfriend, Matthew Wills, was trying to get into her house and yelling that he was going to kill her.
The victim said Wills — against whom she had a personal protection order (PPO) — had broken into the garage. He allegedly had poured gasoline all over himself and the front door of the home, threatening that he was going to light himself on fire and burn the house down.
The victim's parents arrived before responding deputies, Malone said, and we able to detain Wills.
When deputies arrived, he was taken into custody and evidence was collected from the scene.
No one was injured.
Wills was arraigned in First District Court on Thursday one charges of first degree home invasion, second degree arson and aggravated stalking.
Any investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau is ongoing.
