Housing Rates To Increase At Western Michigan University

KALAMAZOO (WWJ/AP) - Parents will be paying more to have their kids live in the dorms at Western Michigan University.

The Board of Trustees approved rate hikes in which students living in residential halls will have to pay 3.5 percent more for the 2016-17 academic year.

The new rates mean a student living in a traditional residence hall with a 15-meal plan will pay $315 more for the full academic year. That pushes the cost for room and board to about $9,320 a year. A room without a meal plan will run about $4,930 a year.

The school operated 22 residence halls, seven dining facilities, six cafes and four apartment-style complexes this academic year.

This fall, Stadium Drive Apartments will re-open, along with the new Valley Dining Center, which features nine different food venues.
