Repairs To Broken Water Main In Canton Could Take All Morning

CANTON (WWJ) - Officials say it could take all morning Wednesday to fix a water main break in Canton that is causing low-pressure at area homes and businesses.

The water main break was discovered around 4 a.m. at Lotz and Palmer roads, just east of I-275 and north of Michigan Avenue.

The break sent about eight inches of water flooding the street, but Canton Public Works manager Bob Belair said everything is under control as crews work to repair the line.

"It looks like just a cap blew off a line. It's an old water main and looks like it just deteriorated over the years," Belair told WWJ's Charlie Langton.

Crescent Academy International and ITT Tech-Canton are closed as a result.

Area homes could be experiencing low or no water pressure, but authorities say the water is still safe to drink.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area until further notice.
