HAZEL PARK (WWJ) – A $2,500 cash reward is being offered for information in the case of a missing 21-year-old woman who disappeared after sending her mother a strange text message in the middle of the night.
Jessica Leigh White was last seen early Saturday, April 23 at her home in Troy. She left with a friend, telling her mother they would be back in a few hours — but she never returned.
According to police, White was last heard from via a text message to her mother at 2:40 a.m. Saturday that said: “Jordan’s dad is cussing him out, this is awkward.” Her mom said she didn’t see the message until she woke up and by then, White’s phone was off.
White’s mother believes her daughter was at a friend’s house in Hazel Park. According to a Facebook post, the friend said White wanted to be dropped off Saturday morning in the area of 7 Mile and John R roads in northeast Detroit. However, when police contacted the home where she was visiting, the homeowner denied that either he or his son knew White.
White’s debit card has not been used, according to police, and she did not show up for a scheduled babysitting job the next day.
Police say White’s cellphone was traced to a location near Woodward Heights and Dequindre, but that’s where the trail stopped.
Relatives are especially worried because they say White has never gone this long without contacting family. A search group will be handing out posters Saturday evening in the area of 7 Mile and John R. roads in hopes that someone might know something.
Meantime, Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,500 cash reward for information that leads to White.
White is described as a white female, 5’5″ tall and 180 lbs. with brown eyes and dark brown hair. She has metal piercings on her left eyebrow, ears and tongue, and has two tattoos: A faded peace symbol on her right thumb, and the word “Loyalty” her left arm. She was last seen wearing a long-sleeved black Nirvana t-shirt with a smiley face, black yoga pants and gray Ugg boots.
