DETROIT (AP) — A 46-year-old man is charged with murder and arson in the slaying of a 56-year-old Detroit woman.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says Torius Inge was arraigned Saturday and ordered jailed.

Police say Grace Hughes was stabbed and had other injuries. Her body was discovered Thursday after a fire was extinguished in her dilapidated childhood home where she had been living without utilities.

The Detroit News reported that the house hadn't had water or electricity for years and is controlled by the Detroit Land Bank Authority, which owns thousands of vacant properties. Spokesman Craig Fahle says the home was on a demolition list, but officials learned that someone was living inside.

Fahle says evictions don't occur unless there's a buyer.
