Dearborn Police Arrest Duo Suspected In Dozens Of Car Break-Ins

DEARBORN (WWJ) - A man and woman who police say were caught red-handed breaking into vehicles in Dearborn are now facing a laundry list of criminal charges.

Allan Askar, 21, and Hanna Siupik, 25, were arrested earlier this week after they were caught stealing items from several vehicles, according to police.

The investigation unfolded around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday when Dearborn police officers observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Hollywood and Ash, not far from Snow Elementary School.

Police say the officers watched as two suspects -- later identified as Askar and Siupik -- entered several unlocked vehicles within the neighborhood and attempted to enter several others, though they could not gain entry because these vehicles were locked.

The officers approached Askar and Siupik, who were taken into custody without further incident. After their arrests, officers found numerous stolen items in their vehicle. It was also discovered that the vehicle the suspects were driving was stolen out of Dearborn Heights earlier in the week.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office authorized the following charges:

Allan Askar
Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile
Receiving and Concealing a Stolen Motor Vehicle
Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property $1000-$20,000
Felony Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle with Damage
License Plate Forgery
3 Counts of Felony Larceny from Auto
3 Counts of Felony Possession of a Stolen Financial Transaction Device
6 Counts Misdemeanor Breaking and Entering Motor Vehicle

Hanna Siupik
Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property $1000-$20,000
Felony Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle with Damage
3 Counts of Felony Larceny from Auto
3 Counts of Felony Possession of a Stolen Financial Transaction Device
6 Counts Misdemeanor Breaking and Entering Motor Vehicle

Askar and Siupik were arraigned Thursday in the 19th District Court by the Honorable William Hultgren, who set bond at $25,000/10% for Askar and $25,000 cash for Siupik. Both are prohibited from returning to the area and will be required to wear a GPS tether if they post bond.

Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said although officers are patrolling neighborhoods, citizens must remain vigilant in securing their vehicles.

"Crime prevention is a collaborative effort with the police and our community," Haddad  said in a statement. "These suspects were responsible for dozens of larcenies... this crime spree is an example why the Lock it or Lose it campaign for educating the public is important."

Askar and Siupik are due back in court for a probable cause conference on May 20 and a preliminary exam on May 27.
