Wayne County Warns Residents Of Jury Duty Phone Scam

DETROIT (WWJ) - Wayne County's Third Circuit Court is warning residents about a jury duty scam being carried out over the telephone.

The scam artist will call a potential victim, warn them that they missed jury duty, and ask them to pay a fine immediately to avoid jail. In the most recent scam, the caller states he is calling from Chief Judge Robert Colombo Jr.'s office.

Officials say you should not respond to this phone call or pay anyone any sum of money. Obtain as much information as you can about the caller and report it to your local police department.

If you actually missed jury duty, the court will not call and threaten to arrest you. However, you might be contacted via mail and ordered to show up to explain why you missed court. If you were to serve at the Coleman A. Young Center, call 313-224-5650. If you were to serve at Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, call 313-224-2507.
