Sterling Hts. Man Who Lured Teen Into Sending Explicit Videos With Kik App Sentenced To 30 Years

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Sterling Heights man will spend 30 years in prison on child porn charges. The U.S. Attorney's office says 51-year old Dennis Dehate convinced a 13-year old girl to send him sexually explicit videos and pictures.

Investigators say Dehate used Kik to text with the girl who lived out-of-state.

He was convicted in January.

A review of KIK from 2012 and updated in 2015 makes it pretty clear that Kik is not for kids.

U.S. Attorney Barb McQuade says parents should talk with their children about the dangers of talking with strangers online.
