$2,500 Reward For Tips In Case Of Man Shot To Death In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - A $2,500 reward is being offered for tips in the murder of a Detroit man last month.

Police say 31-year-old Kevin Smith, a father of two, was killed at 9:20 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at the intersection of Roselawn and the Lodge Service Drive on the west side of Detroit. He was sitting in his blue, 1998 Jeep Cherokee when he was shot by an unknown subject.

According to family members, Smith was on the phone with an unknown person before leaving home at around 9 p.m. He didn't tell his live-in girlfriend where he was going. He said he'd be back and they would go to work together, but never returned.

According to Crime Stoppers, Smith graduated from Weston Technical Academy in Detroit before attending Wayne County Community College and then Baker College to study computer engineering.

He had a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son, and was focused on starting a cleaning business and renovating a home for his family.

In his free time, he was known for participating in "rap battle" contests under the name "Kontraband Kev."

To help Smith's family find closure, Crime Stoppers is asking that anyone with information about this crime come forward with an anonymous tip. The cash reward of up to $2,500 will be received by the tipster whose information leads to an arrest in connection with Smith's death.

Anyone who has any info that could help investigators should call the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Tips may also be submitted online at this link, or by texting CSM and the tip to CRIMES (274637).
