New Independent Baseball League Makes Debut In Utica
UTICA, Mich. (AP) — A new independent baseball league is making its debut in the Detroit area.
A ribbon-cutting is planned Monday at the $15 million stadium in Utica ahead of an afternoon first pitch for the United Shore Professional Baseball League game. The Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers faces the Utica Unicorns in the sold-out Memorial Day event.
Skydivers are expected to deliver the game ball at Jimmy John's Field and the Utica High School Marching Band is performing.
The league also includes a team called the Eastside Diamond Hoppers. The teams are sharing the stadium and aren't affiliated with a Major League team.
