Detroit Grand Prix Parking Information: No Public Parking On Belle Isle

DETROIT (WWJ) - Heading down to the Grand Prix this weekend in Detroit? Well, you can forget about bringing your own car to Belle Isle -- no public parking is allowed.

Instead, you'll need to park in the city proper and catch a shuttle to the island or hoof it and walk across the MacArthur Bridge.

Don't want to drive? Ride sharing service Lyft is offering new users a $50 credit. Just download the Lyft app and use the code "DETROITGP."

Parking and Shuttle Service:

Public Parking during the Grand Prix is not available on Belle Isle. The Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix offers round-trip shuttle service that runs continuously from two downtown Detroit locations as well as Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Shuttle service from downtown Detroit is provided at no charge.

Suggested Parking Locations:

Friday, Saturday & Sunday
• Cobo Hall Roof (entrance located off of Third St, between Atwater & Larned St, just east of M-10, John C Lodge Expressway) Cost: $10 per vehicle per day
• Lots and street parking throughout downtown Detroit. Cost: Varies
• The Detroit People Mover provides easy access to either shuttle location. Cost: $1.50 round-trip per person

Saturday & Sunday Only
• GM Renaissance Center surface lots (C, D & GM – east of the GM Renaissance Center between Atwater & Franklin St, starting at St Antoine and continuing east to Rivard) Cost: $10 per vehicle per day
• Beaubien Place Garage (corner of Beaubien & Atwater St) Cost: $10 per vehicle per day

Downtown Detroit Shuttle Service Locations:
Both inbound downtown Detroit shuttle locations are accessible from any downtown parking lot by using the Detroit People Mover Cost: $1.50 round-trip.

Inbound to Belle Isle
• Cobo Center (along Washington Blvd, near street level entrance)
• GM Renaissance Center (along Jefferson Ave, near the front of the building and immediately below the Detroit People Mover stop)

Return from Belle Isle
• Atwater St at Schweizer Place (serving both VIP and Public Parking Lots east of the GM Renaissance Center)
• Cobo Center (along Washington Blvd, near street level entrance)
• Jefferson Ave in front of the GM Renaissance Center (easy access to People Mover stop and parking lots north and west of the GM Renaissance Center)

Downtown Detroit Shuttle Operating Times:
Shuttle passengers will be dropped off and picked up at a staging area on Belle Isle known as the Shuttle Transportation Center. Shuttle buses run continuously during hours listed below.

Friday: 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. or until all guests are accommodated
Saturday & Sunday: 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. or until all guests are accommodated

Wheelchair Accessible Shuttles & Track Crossings:

• A group of purpose-built, wheelchair accessible vans have been contracted to be of service to physically challenged individuals who are unable to climb aboard the shuttle buses or must be transported in wheelchairs.
• Each van holds two wheelchairs at one time.
• Vans will be deployed on demand to either inbound shuttle stop location in downtown Detroit. All suggested downtown Detroit parking lots are wheelchair accessible.
• Upon arrival at the Shuttle Transportation Center on Belle Isle, guests in wheelchairs who need to cross the track should check in at the Accessibility Ambassadors tent located adjacent to the shuttle drop-off area. Track crossings are scheduled during designated times each day and priority will be given to physically challenged individuals during those times. Accessibility Ambassadors will be available to address any questions or needs.

Don't have Lyft? Race time is a great time to get it. Download the Lyft app and receive $50 in Grand Prix credit through the code DETROITGP. Take Lyft to Cobo Center or GM REN CEN (along Jefferson Ave) and board the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix free shuttle to the Raceway at Belle Isle Park and experience all the excitement.
