Police: 67-Year-Old Woman Killed In Crash Might Have Been Distracted By Cellphone

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say a woman who died after crashing into a semi-truck on I-75 near the Ambassador Bridge was possibly texting and driving.

The accident happened around 7:45 p.m. Thursday on the Ambassador Bridge ramp off northbound I-75.

Police say a semi-truck was stopped in the right lane waiting to cross the bridge to Canada when it was struck from behind by a 2007 Chevy Impala, driven by a 67-year-old woman.

The woman had to be extricated from her vehicle. She was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police say based on their initial investigation, it appears the woman may have been distracted by her cellphone. Her name was not released.

Northbound I-75 was shut down for two hours while police investigated the scene, but has since reopened.
