Woman Killed In Head-On Crash With Teenage Driver

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Authorities say a 50-year-old woman was killed and two others were sent to the hospital following a head-on crash with a teenage driver overnight.

The accident happened just after 12:00 a.m. Friday on 17 Mile Road near Lancelot Drive, just east of Ryan Road in Sterling Heights.

Authorities say the woman was driving a Kia Rio westbound on 17 Mile when an eastbound-traveling Ford Explorer, driven by an 18-year-old male, crossed the center line and collided with her vehicle.

The woman, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 35-year-old passenger in her car was taken to the hospital.

The teenage driver was also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police aren't yet sure if alcohol was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call investigators at 586-446-2920.

Seventeen Mile Road was closed for several hours overnight as police investigated the scene, but has since reopened.
