2-Year-Old Dearborn Girl Dies After Being Pulled From Neighbor's Pool

DEARBORN (WWJ) -- A 2-year-old girl passed away Saturday after falling into a pool in Dearborn on Friday.

Dearborn police say the girl died Saturday around 11:15 a.m. after being hospitalized in critical condition for about 24 hours.

Investigators say a preliminary investigation shows the victim and her 3-year-old brother went outside while their parents were sleeping, both managing to climb a chain link fence into a neighbor's yard.

That's when the little girl, police said, climbed the pool ladder and got into the water.

The homeowner who found the little girl performed CPR. Police arrived to find the girl unresponsive and she was taken to an area hospital. The boy was not hurt.

"This is a tragic situation for all the families involved," said Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad in a media release. "The Dearborn Police Department asks that you respect the family's privacy."

The girl's name was not immediately released.
