4-Year-Old Boy, 13-Year-Old Girl Killed In Flint House Fire

FLINT (WWJ) - A house fire on Flint's south side has claimed the lives of two children.

Michigan State Police Lt. David Kaiser says heavy smoke was billowing from the home, in the 600-block of Vermilya Ave., when firefighters arrived shortly after 6 a.m. Friday.

"As they entered the front door and checked the first room on the right, they found a 4-year-old male lying on the floor," Kaiser told WWJ Newsradio 950 Beth Fisher. "And as they continued to clear the rest of the house, upstairs they found an additional female victim — a 13-year-old."

Kaiser said the second female, possibly a teenager, is hospitalized in critical condition.

He says no adult was home at the time of the fire, but the mother of a couple of the children has been located.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No names were released.
