Construction Alert: Avon/Rochester Road Closure To Begin July 5

ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) - Drivers who travel through Rochester Hills, take note: A summer roadwork project begins next week that may affect your commute.

The Michigan Department of Transportation says — starting at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5 — Avon Road will be completely closed and detoured in each direction at M-150, Rochester Road, and no left turns will be allowed at that intersection.

M-150 will only have one lane open in each direction at Avon through the duration of the project,, expected to wrap up in mid-to-late August, 2016.

MDOT says it is investing $1.4 million to reconstruct M-150/Avon Road, in addition to traffic signal upgrades.

The first stage of the project will begin on the east half of the intersection, with traffic directed to the west side of the intersection. Southbound M-150 will have access to westbound Avon Road.

The second stage will involve work on the west half of the intersection with traffic moved to the east side of the road. Northbound M-150 will be allowed to turn right onto eastbound Avon.

Westbound Avon Road will be detoured via southbound John R Road, westbound Hamlin Road, northbound Livernois Road, and westbound Avon. Eastbound Avon will be detoured via southbound Livernois Road, eastbound Hamlin Road, northbound John R. Road, and eastbound Avon.
