WYOMING, Mich. (AP) – An early-morning fire that authorities are investigating as a suspected arson gutted a fireworks store Tuesday in western Michigan, officials said.

No injuries are reported following the 6:30 a.m. fire in Wyoming, near Grand Rapids, which police believe may be tied to another area fire and two stolen vehicles.

As the GS Fireworks building burned, fireworks shot into the air and explosions were heard.

Investigators received information about a possible suspect and found him driving the wrong way down a street, Wyoming police Lt. Mark Easterly said. Police rammed the car the man was driving while taking him into custody, the newspaper reported. Easterly said the man was taken to a hospital to be checked.

A roadway near the fireworks store was closed as crews extinguished the blaze by Tuesday morning, WOOD-TV reported. Residents of a nearby apartment complex were warned about the fire.

“We could see red and purple fireworks flying over our car,” said Misty Bodell, who lives in the complex behind the store.

Less than 90 minutes after the fire at the fireworks store, firefighters and police responded to a fire at a house nearby. The fires and thefts are under investigation.
