10,000 DTE Customers Remain Without Power After Storms

TAYLOR (WWJ/AP) — DTE Energy says it's making progress in restoring electricity in the Detroit area, although 10,000 customers Sunday still lack power after storms.

The area most heavily impacted by the storms was the I-94 corridor from I-275 to downtown Detroit.

DTE says 120,000 customers were in the dark at the peak of the outages, which began Thursday night.

The utility says crews are working 16-hour shifts to get electricity restored.

DTE spokesman John Austerberry said crews are working to prioritize the problems.

"It's a combination of the wind and the trees," Austerberry said. "The wind tends to topple trees and bring down tree limbs that get caught up in our lines and cause the damage — that's the primary cause of the problems."

In Lansing, the Lansing Board of Water & Light reports about 9,000 customers without power.

Austerberry says most DTE customers should have power restored by Sunday evening.
