Dam Repair Project To Curb Access To Lake In Upper Peninsula

HOUGHTON, Mich. (AP) — A dam repair project in Michigan's Upper Peninsula will curb boating access to the area as work is taking place.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says work is scheduled to begin Tuesday at Otter Lake in Houghton County. The two affected DNR boating access sites include the Otter Lake Dam Boating Access Site, which is near the dam work site on the lake's northeast side.

During the work, that access site will be closed.

A second DNR boat launch is located at the southwest end of Otter Lake. It will remain open, but the DNR is urging caution due to lower water levels.

Officials say Otter Lake will be drawn down 2.5 feet. The lowering, inspection, repairs and lake refilling are expected to take about three months at most.
