Shelby Township Police Investigate Election Flier Likening Supervisor, Candidates To Hitler, Nazis

SHELBY TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Some residents in Shelby Township are saying a certain primary election flier is offensive and disrespectful. In fact, a police investigation is now underway as a result of the flier, which was distributed just days before the election.

The flier depicts Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis as Hitler, along with three trustee candidates and the current treasurer giving the Nazi salute, under block red letters that say: "Brainwashed Stooges of King Dick Stathakis."

The email address linked to the flier has the name of trustee candidate Grant Golasa on it. However, Golasa spoke to WWJ Tuesday morning and said he didn't have anything to do with the flier and he doesn't know who sent it out.

Police were notified of the campaign mailers on Monday and launched an investigation.

Investigators haven't yet identified who sent the flier, but police say none of those pictured on the mailer are responsible.

Both Stathakis and Golasa say the flier is distasteful and disrespectful to the community.

An investigation is ongoing.
