Study Highlights Concerns For Effectiveness Of Flu Vaccines For The Obese

DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) - Obesity is at epidemic proportions in this country and is known to put you at risk for many health problems such as diabetes and heart disease.

Now a new study finds it can also increase your risk of getting the flu says WWJ health reporter Dr. Deanna Lites.

Researchers at St. Jude Hospital found vaccines didn't protect obese mice against the flu even when they increased the dose and added ingredients to boost the immune response.

The researchers are concerned because they believe that these findings translate to humans and it's known that obesity puts you at an increased risk for severe flu and complications.
