Detroit's K-9 Unit Gets Outfitted With Bullet Resistant Vests
DETROIT (WWJ) - Members of the Detroit Police Department's K-9 unit are the beneficiaries of new bullet resistant vests -- thanks to the generosity of one local business.
Assistant Detroit Police Chief James White was interrupted by some of his four-legged officers during Tuesday's announcement.
"K-9s are wonderful partners ... they assist us in apprehending violent criminals -they assist narcotics, the bomb squad and detecting bombs and explosives," said White.
"Being able to provide them with vests is not only a big deal for the department but it certainly gives the officers a degree of comfort that their partners are protected."
The vests, priced at $1,000 each, were made possible by a donation from Strategic Staffing Solutions -- an IT and business services company based in Detroit.
