Families Scrambling As Detroit Charter High School Closes

DETROIT (AP) - Families are looking for a new school after a charter high school in Detroit says it won't reopen, just days before the new year.

University Yes Academy says it doesn't have room for 200 high school students and instead will focus on hundreds of kids in K-8.

Dan Quisenberry, president of a charter school association, says the timing is "terribly unfortunate." He says parents and families didn't deserve the sudden news.

Parents who attended a meeting Tuesday night were greatly disappointed. Joyce Faunce says "all of our children are on the street."

A student, Amir Thornton, wanted to stay at Yes Academy and doesn't like switching schools.
