Police: Murder For Hire Plot Busted; 2 Behind Bars In Scheme To Kill Informants

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Monroe County man and his mother are behind bars for an alleged murder revenge plot to kill two informants.

Jontele Goodwin had been arrested for selling prescription drugs reports WWJ's Sandra McNeill. He and his mother, Lakeisha, of Romulus were gunning for revenge.

Goodwin befriended a fellow inmate behind bars, says Cuevas, and reportedly offered him $2,500 to kill two informants, who he blamed for his fate.

The inmate told police.

"The suspect told him that he wanted to get even with ... individuals who led to his arrest and he asked our informant if he'd be willing to carry out a hit," said Cuevas.

"The jail staff immediately realized this person was honest and brought that to our detectives -- providing them with the informents information and we were able to do a detailed investigation which really showed the level of planning and thought that was put into this by the suspects," said Cuevas. "They were definitely going to carry this out."

Police say Lakeisha Goodwin brought drugs to the inmate as a downpayment for the hit.

Mother and son face a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted on the charge of solictation of murder.
