Construction Begins On New Headquarters For Little Caesars In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - A big block party taking place Wednesday afternoon to celebrate the groundbreaking for the Little Caesars expansion in Detroit.

Hundreds of visitors and city officials braved the sweltering heat across from the Fox Theater as city leaders including Mayor Mike Duggan and Ilitch Holdings President Chris Ilitch for the event.

The nine story, $150 million expansion, expected to be over 200,000 square feet will be across from Comerica Park, near the new Little Caesars Arena.

"Today as we break ground on this remarkable expansion ... we are all becoming a part of the first new corporate headquarters rising in Detroit in more than a decade," said Duggan.

"Design is beautiful," said David Scrivano with Ilitch Holdings. "We have an iconic facade -- it's made of pizza glass ... Each piece of glass is 14 feet tall and it is hundreds of times bigger than a real slice of pizza."

When completed, the expansion will double current space of the downtown headquarters.
