According to court records, last November Smith allegedly broke into a family’s home in Garden City and raped a woman who was sleeping in the living room. Police preserved that DNA, and when Dearborn police arrested him Thursday they were able to connect him to the other alleged crimes.

He faced a judge in Garden City District Court Friday and was remanded back to jail.

In a statement, Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad praised a police and FBI task force for their efforts which he says resulted in “a very dangerous predator being taken off the streets.”
