MACOMB TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Authorities say a Macomb County woman involved in a domestic dispute with her husband was calling 911 for help when she was shot to death.

The incident unfolded just after 1 a.m. Saturday at a home in the 16000 block of Country Ridge Lane, off 21 Mile and Garfield roads in Macomb Township.

According to police, the 38-year-old woman called 911 to report a domestic dispute and while speaking with the dispatcher, several gun shots were heard over the phone.

Deputies arrived on scene and located the woman and her 44-year-old husband, lying within close proximity to each other inside of the home. The woman sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The husband sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital for further treatment.

Deputies also located a .40 caliber handgun lying on the floor near the husband. The gun is registered to the husband.

The woman's 16-year-old son was in the home when the incident occurred. He was uninjured and turned over to family members.

The husband is currently in custody at the hospital; his current condition is unknown.

Police say there were no prior domestic calls to the home.

An investigation is ongoing. Names of those involved are being withheld at this time.
