Detroit Offering Apprenticeship Training For Bus Mechanics

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Free 16-week apprenticeship training is being offered to Detroit residents interested in working as a diesel mechanic on the city's Department of Transportation bus fleet.

The jobs are part of Detroit's efforts to improve public bus service.

A recruitment event begins at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Tuesday by the Detroit Employment Solutions Corp. at 9301 Michigan Ave. Other recruitment events are scheduled on Oct. 25 and Nov. 1.

Applicants must have a driver's license, the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License with airbrakes endorsement along with a passenger endorsement, and a high school diploma or GED.

They also must pass math and reading assessments and a mechanical reasoning test.
