Reports: Plea Deal Underway For Former TV Anchor, City Council President Charles Pugh

DETROIT (WWJ) - Former TV anchor and Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh has reportedly struck a plea deal in the criminal sexual conduct case against him.

The 45-year-old Pugh is facing multiple criminal sexual conduct charges -- stemming from allegations that he had engaged in sexually inappropriate behavior with a 14-year-old boy in 2003 -- at the time Pugh was an anchor at Fox 2 in Detroit.

WWJ Legal Analyst Charlie Langon says Pugh will most certainly get prison time.

"How much is a different issue, but you can't have somebody of authority, someone who possibly, possibly now has a pattern of doing bad things to young people, minors, sexual things to minors, that would not get prison time. Now C'mon."

Langton says the judge in this case had ruled that "other people who have accused Charles Pugh of 'doing bad things' would be allowed to testify - that's one major strike against Charles Pugh, then I think when the judge made that ruling you have to think about a plea. Also, the complaining witness at the preliminary exam was a fairly credible witness."

Langton says without a plea deal - Pugh could have been facing up to life in prison.

Pugh left Detroit and lived in New York City for some time -- he was extradited to Michigan to face charges in this case.

Pugh was elected to Detroit's City Council and also served as council president before leaving the position in 2013.
