ROMULUS (WWJ) – Metro Detroit Airport now has  a new way to allow people to move seamlessly through airport security.

It’s called CLEAR and it’s now in operation at the airport’s McNamara Terminal. Certified as a “qualified anti-terrorism technology” by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, CLEAR has been used more than five million times to move travelers quickly through airport security lines at 16 other airports.

“They validate their identity using a knowledge-based quiz, they use a government identification that’s validated using technology, and then we link it to their bio-metrics — we take 10 fingerprints with a digital reader, we take a scan of their iris, and we take a high-res photo of their face,” said CLEAR spokesperson David Cohen.

Cohen said the initial sign-up process takes about five minutes and after that, getting through security lines should be a breeze. He said there are special lines for CLEAR customers that can be a great time-saver for travelers, who will still have to pass through X-Rays and body scans.

“Our customers go through the TSA security process in minutes. They come to a CLEAR lane, that lane is going to be open and available for them to validate their identity on the spot, a process in itself that takes less than a second,” he said.

Membership to use CLEAR costs $179 per year. New members who enroll at the airport receive a one-month free trial and can use CLEAR immediately.

Airport officials they plan to install the CLEAR system at the North Terminal in the future.

  1. I know this is just the beginning but I won’t be using DTW airport or any airport that puts this kind of thing in place. Funk that.

    1. Sure you will. When all airports have it as the only form of security you won’t have a choice

Stop flying, it’s easy. My last flight was in 1987 and I don’t miss it one bit.

    2. Doh... says:

Elliot, they all have this option. The question is do you want to wait in line and go through the body scanners with the rest of the heard, or do you want to bypass the lines and go through a metal detector with your clothes and shoes on, computer stays in case and you breeze through security. And you can use the TSA PreCheck or Global Entry that is one cost for 5 years. Do some research. I’m not thrilled to have done the background check, but it was quick and easy with only a few basic answers. If you travel more than 2x in 5 years it’s worth it.

    3. You can get a Global Entry pass for $100. good for 5 years from Customs/Fed. Govt. You automatically get Precheck and don’t have to wait in line to go through customs when you re-enter the country. Why pay $179. for this airport? A rip off.

  2. Jc says:

Since when did the tsa start using X-rays? Do they give you a lead apron to cover your junk too?

    1. porcorosso says:

No the nice man covers it with his hands.

  3. “Should be a breeze.” Sounds like a scam.

  4. Oh Sure says:

Collecting all that information on innocent people…hmmm….

  5. Thor says:

Hey, it’s just a government that wants to track your every movement, what could go wrong?

Also, if you want convenience and to get to your flight on time pay up the extra fees otherwise get in line for the extra groping and long delays.

    Papers please.

  6. Freemktpro says:

I have been a member of CLEAR for many years. I am also a Pre check member. It is well worth it to me to have been identified as the boring person I am in order to free up TSA time and attention to screening for the ones who want to harm and/or kill us.

TSA has not approved CLEAR members for automatic Pre-Check status. CLEAR is private technology and is a proven system for making its members’ security screens less stressful. It’s voluntary and a great free-market tool.

    1. George Romero says:

      Your astroturfing has been noted.

Would you please include the name of the company you work for along with your marketing sales pitch?

      1. NowYouKnow says:

Is Detroit that much of a parallel universe that you don’t have a clue about Clear? Clear has been around for a long time. And it’s not mandatory. You are free to use the alternative — standing in line for 40 minutes and watching amateurs fumble with carry on luggage and shoes.

    2. Doh... says:

At this point why even pay for Clear. TSA PreCheck is $85/5 years and Global Entry is $100/5 years which includes PreCheck.

  7. So how many people come in under a stolen identity and how many come across the border with NOBODY ASKING who the hell they are. I wonder who’s brother/friend/crony is making bank off of this one

  8. Tom says:

    Submit slaves.

  9. prheffler says:

    what no anal probe?!

  10. Keith Ellison’s Islamists will be exempt. TSA has no authority to b doing this on their own. Fly out of a smaller airport that is still Free American.

  11. Steel T Post says:

Getting to “Clear” with Scientology costs lots more.

  12. Scott says:

Will this keep my flight from being delayed for 2 hours? Flying will still suck. Thank Buddha for booze…

  13. says:

Why can’t the TSA provide this service? Is just any company allowed to provide the service of identifying passengers, or does it have to be a govt. connected crony?

Why aren’t moslems being publicly strip searched, cavity searched and inspected for explosive residue smells by trained pigs? If we could get those people to stay out of airports, we wouldn’t need to randomly molest passengers.

A sane country would not allow people in, whose religion forbids getting along with others.

  14. Abdul Basit says:

TSA has Pre-Check and DHS has GLOBAL ENTRY both of those systems does the same thing as CLEAR, which is a private company. TSA Pre-Check costs $85 for 5 years and DHS GLOBAL ENTRY costs $100 for 5 years. Wondering how many more Pre-checks do we the people need???

  15. Mathius says:

Wow, We get the convenience of paying the the Fed Gov to catalog and retain our individual bio-metric data. Thats a losing hand for me. I will continue to wait and I will continue to not use the x-ray scanners. I will continue to force the TSA to increase its man-hour costs by forcing them to screen me the old fashioned way.

  16. Wait, wait, wait! $179??????? What do the election stealing democrats have to say about this? After all they KNOW a vast portion of their voter base is too poor to be able to obtain a FREE voter ID but have no problem with another method to gather information on us.

Couple that with $160 or so for a passport and it appears this government does not care about the poor. How can that be with the CPUSA Progressives gaining more and more control of every government agency?

  17. Doh... says:

Why would you pay $179/year for Clear when you can pay $85/5 years for the TSA PreCheck. Or pay $100/5 years for Global Entry(International Travel) that includes TSA PreCheck. Horrible article that either paid for by Clear or just bad “journalism”. If you travel 2 times in 5 years it’s worth it especially at big airports.

    1. gphx says:

Those who surrender liberty for safety deserve neither.

  18. gphx says:

So now people PAY the government to take intrusive information and track them. If everyone joined me in not flying until they disband the TSA it’d be gone already.

  19. rex reed says:

Put this machine on the southern border and the libs will go crazy!

  20. Norbert says:

Say what you will about Detroit. A couple years back I was returning from Europe and passed through Detroit. I am an old fart, and collapsed trying to get my luggage. They responded immediately and all turned out well. I will not say ill about those guys,

  21. In the Know says:

Just think of using this tech at voting places. All the fraud it would eliminate

  22. Thousands Standing Around says:

Thousands Standing Around… haven’t flown since they were installed. Good riddance.. the airlines didn’t want my money, so I took it elsewhere.

  23. Frank says:

This is another in a long list of security measures that wouldn’t have stopped 9/11.

  24. Tjp says:

Just line up and get a national ID tattooed on your forehead. This is CLEARly aimed at collecting precrime data from innocent people. If you want something like this, lobby for a national ID that has endorsements to allow firearms purchase, welfare status, ACA carrier, voter ID and serves as a passport. It would be less intrusive.

  25. Common Sense says:

IBM’s first computers were first developed and used in the Nazi Concentration camps to identify and cotalogue victims. Although they were only used to identify a tattooed number, this biometric sophistication we have today was envisioned and written about in the 1920’s. The book was called Biometrica.

  26. Craig says:

    Papers please.

  27. Bill Clinton says:

    Clearly garbage.
Not flying in the US again.
That’s the only clear answer here.

    Choke on a fat D.

  28. porcorosso says:

Has anyone heard of any complaint from the Muslim community about TSA groping under the burka of any demure daughter of Allah in search of a possible Mr. Muhamed Mohmmed Muhhamud in drag? I did not think so. They are not filing anti-discrimination lawsuits because TSA is not “randomly” submitting Muslim women to the indignity of invasive searches that are routinely done on 80 year old grannies.

Everybody says there is this RACE problem. Everybody says this RACE problem will be solved when the third world pours into EVERY white country and ONLY into white countries.

The Netherlands and Belgium are just as crowded as Japan or Taiwan, but nobody says Japan or Taiwan will solve this RACE problem by bringing in millions of third worlders and quote assimilating unquote with them.

Everybody says the final solution to this RACE problem is for EVERY white country and ONLY white countries to “assimilate,” i.e., intermarry, with all those non-whites.

What if I said there was this RACE problem and this RACE problem would be solved only if hundreds of millions of non-blacks were brought into EVERY black country and ONLY into black countries?

How long would it take anyone to realize I’m not talking about a RACE problem. I am talking about the final solution to the BLACK problem?

And how long would it take any sane black man to notice this and what kind of psycho black man wouldn’t object to this?

But if I tell that obvious truth about the ongoing program of genocide against my race, the white race, Liberals and respectable conservatives agree that I am a naziwhowantstokillsixmillionjews.

They say they are anti-racist. What they are is anti-white.

    Anti-racist is a code word for anti-white.

  30. But you do not have to identified to vote or immigrate?

  31. usissuescom says:

Maybe they should use that at Polling Places to reduce/eliminate fraud.

  32. Lisa Simeone says:

That’s right, sheeple — buy back your rights. Because obviously you don’t understand their value in the first place. All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.
