Weekend Forecast: Temps To Hit 70 In Metro Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - It might feel a little bit like winter in metro Detroit, but things are about to get a lot warmer.

Residents woke up Friday morning to temperatures just above freezing, but CBS 62 Chief Meteorologist Jim Madaus says the weather will take a dramatic turn overnight.

"Mild air is settling over the Great Lakes area, pushing the cold air away," he said. "Saturday will be warmer, with temperatures at 70 or near 70."

Unfortunately, the sky will be covered with clouds so we'll have to wait until after the weekend to see some sun along with those warmer temperatures. Like on Tuesday, when Madaus says we're expected to have a full day of sun with highs around 72.

Here's the local forecast from the CBS Detroit weather team:

Friday -- Sunshine and clouds mixed. High 54F. Low 51F.

Saturday -- Cloudy. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High 70F. Low 49F.

Sunday -- Showers in the morning, then cloudy in the afternoon. High 53F. Low 42F.

Monday -- Mostly cloudy skies. High 53F. Low 48F.

Tuesday -- Mostly sunny skies. High 72F. Low 48F.
