A Wedding With Hospital Backdrop: 'Our Love Is Unconditional And Forever'

DETROIT (WWJ) - They say love happens when you least expect it -- and Tuesday -- one local couple demonstrated that commitment to love and each other in a wedding ceremony in a hospital.

An unseasonably warm fall day was the backdrop for the November wedding for 46-year old Glenn Ryan of Allegan and 45-year-old Carey Nowaccewski of St. Clair Shores.

Glenn, a paraplegic, married his longtime girlfriend Carey, a co-worker at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan. How did they meet? The couple told WWJ's Stephanie Davis that they two would often have lunch together -- talking and eventually falling in love.

"It feels really good," said Carey.

Echoing the thought, Glenn said, "it feels good and even more, it feels pretty lucky that she could still love me after all this."

The two exchanged vows surrounded by friends, family and hospital staff in the conference room at the Select Specialty Hospital at St. John's on Moross.

"She's my best friend," said Glenn, "somebody I get to confide in completely - it's nice."

"There's not one moment in his whole journey, with his physical stuff that's happened ... that has made me question ever wanting to be with him - more than I do now," said Carey. "Our love is unconditional and forever."

Ryan will go home within the week -- having undergone an elective, unrelated surgery at the hospital in Detroit.
