Resident Helps Police Catch 2 Teens Breaking Into Cars

AUBURN HILLS (WWJ) - A sharp-eyed resident in Auburn Hills helped police nab a pair of teenagers wanted for a rash of car break-ins.

The situation unfolded around 1 a.m. Sunday when police were called to the area of Vinewood and Hill Road on a report of two people breaking into parked vehicles.

Upon arrival, a resident advised the officers that the suspects were still in the area on Hill Road. Officers then quickly located two suspects, 17-year-olds Kyle Koehler and Jalen Munson, who had a backpack containing multiple electronic charging cables, a GPS device and cash.

Officers checked several vehicles in the area and found three that had been broken into. The owners of the vehicles were contacted and were able to identify property stolen from their vehicles, some of which was found in the backpack, according to police.

At that point, Koehler and Munson were placed under arrest and booked at the Oakland County Jail.

"Thank you to the citizen who immediately reported the suspicious activity," police said in a statement. "Without this resident's partnership, these two could have victimized many more people."

Koehler and Munson were both arraigned at the 6th Circuit Court in Pontiac on charged of larceny from a motor vehicle and larceny less than $200. Bond was set at $10,000 cash/no 10 percent for Koehler, and $5,000 cash/no 10 percent for Munson. Both are due back in court for a probable cause conference on November 10.
