PONTIAC (WWJ) - Two men are injured but alive after they were rescued from a Pontiac water tower.

Police said it was not immediately clear how the two got trapped inside the tower as they were working on it Friday afternoon — but they either fell off the scaffolding or the scaffolding fell.

Multiple rescue teams were at the scene, near the corner of Montcalm and Edison near Joslyn Road.

The two workers were out of the tower by around 5 p.m.

Both of them were hurt, according to police speaking to WWJ's Stephanie Davis at the scene. One of them suffered broken bones. A fire official said they were in "bad shape."

No further information was available about the workers' conditions and their names have not been released.

An investigation into the incident is underway.
