Groom-To-Be Struck, Killed By Semi-Truck While Repairing Vehicle On I-75

TROY (WWJ) - A former police officer who was set to be married this weekend was struck by a semi-truck and killed after his vehicle broke down on I-75.

The accident happened just before 7 a.m. Thursday on northbound I-75 just south of the Crooks Road overpass in Troy.

According to police, 43-year-old Patrick Seamus Arthurs, of Allen Park, was driving on the freeway when his 2004 Cadillac apparently broke down and he stopped along the right shoulder. Police say Arthurs was standing outside of his vehicle, with the hood up, when he was struck by a semi-truck that was travelling in the right lane.

Police say the lights on Arthurs' Cadillac were not on and the emergency flashers were also not activated.

Arthurs was transported to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the truck, which was hauling cement powder, was not injured.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact police at 248-524-3477.
