Capuchin Soup Kitchen Hit By Thieves For Third Time This Month [VIDEO]

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit has been targeted by thieves for the second time in less than a week, and the third time this month.

The latest break-in happened early Friday morning at On The Rise Bakery Café on Gratiot Avenue and Rohns Street.

The crook smashed through the front doors, leaving shattered glass covering the floors, and took $100 from cash register, according to retail manager Brian Talley.

"I'm not happy about it. A little disappointed, not defeated though," Talley told WWJ's Laura Bonnell.

Talley said police arrived quickly, but the robber still got away. A description of the suspect wasn't immediately released.

The bakery will remain closed Friday as crews make repairs. Damages are estimated at upwards of $1,000.

It's the second time in a month that the bakery was targeted by thieves, and the third robbery for Capuchin Soup Kitchen this month. Talley said someone broke into the business earlier this month and stole cash and a laptop. Then just this week, on Tuesday, someone broke into the soup kitchen's location off Conner Street and Mack Avenue, south of I-94, and stole laptops and other computer equipment.

No arrests have been made in any of the crimes.

On The Rise Bakery Café is a program of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. The bakers have recently been released from prison and have completed a substance abuse treatment program on the way to changing their lives.
