Handyman Sentenced In Slaying Of Grosse Pointe Farms Interior Designer

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A handyman has been sentenced in the fatal stabbing of a well-known Detroit-area interior designer.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says a judge on Tuesday ordered David Corzilius to spend 30 to 60 years in prison for second-degree murder.

Daniel Clancy, 69, of Grosse Pointe Farms suffered neck wounds in the March 6 attack and then died from his injuries in late April.

Corzilius, who pleaded guilty earlier this month, told police he had shoveled snow for Clancy and became upset because the designer hit on him, touching his buttocks.

Authorities say Corzilius returned to Clancy's 8,400 square foot home — on Voltaire Place, near Kercheval and Moross — the next day and demanded money before he hit him in the face and bound his hands with duct tape.

Corzilius then slashed Clancy's neck multiple time, ransacked his home and stole valuable paintings, cuff-links and other items.  A passerby later saw Clancy lying in a pool of blood on the sidewalk and called 911.

Corzilius' lawyer has said his client had a history of drug problems and mental health issues.
