Stay Out Of Eastpointe: Pastors Issue 'Travel Warning' For Blacks In Michigan

EASTPOINTE, Mich. (CBS DETROIT/AP) - A police chief in suburban Detroit has met with activists who are warning blacks to avoid traveling through the community after a man said he was repeatedly beaten by an officer.

Eastpointe Public Safety Director John McNeilance saying that it was a "productive" meeting Wednesday that turned "lively at times."

McNeilance says every use of force is thoroughly reviewed, although he declined to comment about Frankie Taylor, who is suing. "We look forward to the independent inquiry and review from the Justice Department and the FBI."

Taylor, who is black, says he was arrested for drunken driving in 2015, restrained at the Eastpointe police station and repeatedly punched in the head.

A video released shows a man struggling with police officers, then dragged to a chair and then is hit several times -- while an officer yells at him to "stop resisting."

He says he needed eye surgery and has lost partial vision in one eye.

A police report says Taylor tried to bite officers. A Detroit pastor, the Rev. W.J. Rideout III, wants five officers fired.
