MSP Raid In Hamtramck Centers Around Possible Voter Fraud

HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) - Michigan State Police conducted a raid in Hamtramck over an accusation of voter fraud.

No one was arrested, but a business owned by Nayeem Choudhury, who is running for council, was raided following a tip that came through in August. Authorities executed search warrants after reviewing thousands of documents and other evidence.

They continue to gather evidence, according to Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw.

The raid took place at Walee Enterprise on Conant Wednesday afternoon.

Will there be more raids? Shaw said only that police will go where the evidence takes them. "As you go along in these type of investigations, it's not really like interviewing people, there's a lot of paperwork, that part, that goes with it. It just takes a large amount of time and resources to be able to go through each one of these. And it kind of leads you as you go along."

Hamtramck Mayor Karen Majewski said she trusts MSP to get the job done and get to the bottom of it. "I will be watching the results of this investigation as much as anyone," she said.
