Winter Storm Watch: Metro Detroit Braces For Up To 10 Inches Of Snow

DETROIT (WWJ) – He’s back for more. Old Man Winter is expected to drop nearly a foot of snow on top of what already fell the past week.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for all of southeast Michigan, in effect late Thursday through Friday evening.

Forecasters say the next storm system is expected to arrive Thursday evening and stick around for about 24 hours, with the largest amounts of snow expected along and south of the M-59 corridor.

The highest intensity snowfall is expected Friday morning and afternoon. Drivers should plan on difficult travel conditions, especially during the Friday morning commute. Significant reductions in visibility are expected.

The NWS says metro Detroit will see five to nine inches, but AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore said those numbers will be more like six to 10.

“I think there will be a couple of inches on the ground when we wake up first thing tomorrow morning, and then it is going to keep snowing into the early part of the afternoon,” he said. “It will be slippery and snowy out of the gate tomorrow.”

Here’s a look at the forecast from the CBS Detroit weather team:

Thursday — Cloudy skies. Snow developing late. High near 20F. Low 12F.

Friday — Snow showers. High near 25F. Low 18F.

Saturday — Snow showers. High 25F. Low 22F.

Sunday — Morning snow. High 28F. Low 10F.

Monday — Mix of sun and clouds. High 23F. Low 13F.
