Help Is On The Way! Crews To Fix Mound Road's Major Pothole Problem

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Officials are answering the calls to fix one of Macomb County's worst roadways.

A $10.2 million project to resurface four miles of Mound Road, which is notorious for being one of the worst in the area when it comes to potholes, was announced Wednesday.

Work will start this summer, with the eight-lane road being completely resurfaced from 14 Mile to 18 Mile roads in both directions.

The project involves 80 percent federal funding with the rest split between the county and the city of Sterling Heights.

Over the past two weeks, city and county officials have been collaborating in a number of emergency meetings to address the immediate condition of Mound Road. In the end, resurfacing was determined to be the most cost-effective way to address nearly four miles considered to be the worst pothole plagued section of the nine-mile stretch from I-696 to M-59.

The project will be finished by the end of 2018.

Officials say the improvement is expected to last at least five years until the funding for the complete reconstruction, $217 million, can be secured.
