Gunman Barricaded Inside Lincoln Park Restaurant Surrenders

LINCOLN PARK (WWJ) - A gunman that barricaded himself inside a Lincoln Park restaurant has surrendered, police said Thursday night.

The suicidal 27-year-old man was inside the Hop Sheing Noodle House at 4232 Fort Street near Goddard and police said the "situation has concluded and the suspect came out of his barricade," according to a report from the Detroit News.

The man was the only one in the building and he was said to be suicidal, but the situation ended peacefully after more than four hours.

Lincoln Park police Chief Raymond Watters said the department received calls about a suicidal worker at the restaurant at about 4 p.m., according to the News.  When officers arrived to the scene, he barricaded himself inside an office.

A SWAT team was called to the scene in addition to about 10 police cars and an ambulance.

While police efforts were focused on the rear entrance of the building, traffic was slow on Fort Street, with only the far left lane open. Diners were turned away from the restaurant and police advised motorists to avoid the area.
