Township Seeks Grant To Help Buy Pirate's Park Property

FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A former Flint-area entertainment venue could have a future as a recreational center.

Flint Township officials hope to receive a $1.5 million state grant to help pay 75 percent of the cost for Pirate's Park.

The owner is selling the nearly 40-acre property for $2.2 million and will donate 10 percent of the appraised value to the township. The township would be required to pay 15 percent of the appraised value.

The grant application is due by April 1. A decision is expected in November. The property would be purchased sometime next year.

Pirate's Park shut down about three years ago. It had a 420-foot-tall water slide, miniature golf and batting cages.
