Detroit-Area Lectures Explore Jewish, Muslim Immigration

DETROIT (AP) — Jewish and Muslim immigration to America will be explored during a Detroit-area lecture series.

The series, "Destination America: Jewish and Muslim Migration — Histories & Trajectories," begins Wednesday at the Muslim Unity Center in Bloomfield Hills. The theme is "Off to America."

Other lectures are "The Allures of the Melting Pot" March 19 at West Bloomfield's Congregation Beth Ahm and "Diaspora Politics" March 26 at Detroit's Wayne State University.

The events are free but registration is required.

The series, part of the annual "A Shared Future" program, features two Wayne State academics: Howard Lupovitch, director of the Cohn-Haddow Center for Judaic Studies, and Saeed Khan, a lecturer in the Department of Near East & Asian Studies.

The Jewish Community Relations Council/AJC and Michigan Muslim Community Council present the series.
