(CBS DETROIT) – Felons in Michigan could soon have a clean slate thanks to a series of legislative bills.

Starting in 2023 eligible felons will automatically have their records expunged.

Michigan would be the fourth state to adopt the new system.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer will now decide if the bills will be passed into law.
