There’s something about a uniform that makes people a lot more attractive. If you’re looking to meet a military man or woman or a sports nut, check out one of our recommended venues including The Upper Deck near Selfridge or Mug Shots.

Foran’s Irish Pub

612 Woodward Ave.
Detroit, MI 48226-3450
(313) 961-3043‎

Not everyone is in the military, and lots of folks don a uniform for service in any number of fields. Foran’s Irish Pub, like many things in Detroit, feels as if it has always been and will always be there. An old standby neighborhood bar, Foran’s, is a favorite hangout of the City Hall gang, being that it is just a block away, but politicos and the city’s finest aren’t the only regulars. Stop on by, grab a beer and some grub before a night out in Downtown.

The Upper Deck

Total Sports Complex
40501 Production Drive
Harrison, MI 48045
(586) 463-2000

Just down the street from the Selfridge Air Force Base is The Upper Deck at the Total Sports Complex. One reviewer said, this place is kind of a dive, but the atmosphere makes it fun. It can be filled with uniforms from many walks of life; military or sports! Mostly you’ll find players from softball teams there to have a few beers and wind down. Good fun at game time–pick your sport!

Mug Shots

38730 Harper Ave.
Clinton Twp, MI 48036-2840
(586) 421-5273 ‎

Bustling crowd, but we are stretching a bit to include the other side of uniformed regulars, to include images of those that are ‘helped’ by men & women in uniform. It’s not a fancy bar, but it is fun. Along the walls are mug shots of famous people: celebrities, actors, musicians, politicians and criminals (who are sometimes one in the same). Along the back wall is the Hall of Shame featuring mug shots of the bars customers. Get some grub and play darts, trivia or video games.

Luna Kai Waterfront Bar & Grill

37400 Jefferson Avenue
Harrison Twp, MI 48045-2635
(586) 468-2611

A bit south of Selfridge, but this place serves up a spectacular view, tasty eats and a lively environment all year long. See live bands weekly Thursday through Sunday. The Tiki bar opens outside during the summer months with a great view of Lake St. Clair. During the winter, enjoy the frozen view from inside. Unlike Hawaii, Luna Kai Waterfront Bar & Grill is able to show patrons a good time even when it’s 10 below out.

Danny’s Irish Pub

22824 Woodward Ave.
Ferndale, MI 48220-1735
(248) 546-8331

Just a hop, skip and jump from the city offices and notably sporting the best Irish beer on tap, but you could have guessed that, right? Danny’s Irish Pub is exactly what you’d expect a neighborhood bar to be; laid back, comfortable, and a great place to bend your elbow with the city locals. Many regulars sneak away for a few hours at this local bar, but you don’t have to be a regular to hang out here, Danny’s makes everyone feel welcome and, really, that’s what a neighborhood bar is all about.
