Russell Street Deli is located in Eastern Market, in downtown Detroit, and actually has a sandwich called "The Breakfast Sandwich." The sandwich consists of an English muffin or toast with Applewood ham or sugar-cured bacon, egg and cheddar, topped with American cheese. Be prepared for a wait, as the Deli is usually crowded. The restaurant also offers catering and other breakfast delights such as signature omelets/scrambles, pastrami hash and raisin bread French toast.

The Brooklyn Street Local has a few intriguing breakfast sandwiches which you will be hard-pressed to find anywhere else, and it's known for its "hip" menu and atmosphere. It's open Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. for breakfast, and also serves brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., although these sandwiches aren't served at brunch. The Canuck Sandwich includes fried egg, Peameal bacon, sharp cheddar and apple compote, and comes with roasted potatoes or green salad. You can also choose to upgrade to poutine for $2. The Breakfast Club Sandwich consists of a fried egg, bacon or tempeh, lettuce, tomato and mayo, and can also be upgraded. Roasted potatoes or a salad comes on the side.

Although Uptown Grille is more well known for its drink and dinner menu, it has a surprising variety of breakfast choices as well. Try the Steak & Egg Sizzler, which includes shaved prime rib, scrambled egg, Havarti cheese, tomato, red onion, green pepper and garlic sauce, served on Asiago ciabatta bread with home fries. If eggs aren't your thing, then try the Lox Sandwich: smoked salmon, sun-dried tomato cheese spread, capers, cucumbers and tomatoes, also on Asiago ciabatta bread with home fries. There's an Egg & Veggie Wrap option as well for vegetarians.

Mudgie's only serves its breakfast sandwiches during its Sunday brunch, which is available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There are four sandwiches available that are all delicious, and also all quite different from one another. The first is Prosciutto, which comes on an English muffin with greens, tomato, a hard-boiled egg and pesto mayo. The next two both come topped with a fried egg. The Gutty consists of five meats (salami, pastrami, corned beef, bacon and beef brisket) as well as sharp cheddar, lettuce, tomato and garlic mayo. The Sho'Nuff comes with house-roasted turkey, cherrywood-smoked bacon, strawberry cream cheese, baby spinach and strawberry preserves, on multigrain bread. Both the Gutty and the Sho'Nuff are served warm. Mudgie's serves Sy Ginsberg corned beef, among the best of the best, and has been compared to Zingerman's in Ann Arbor.

The Fly Trap is located on Woodward in downtown Ferndale and has an unimaginable wealth of sandwiches, including a few that can be consumed for breakfast. Try the Pea Patch for your daily serving of veggies, as it has eggplant, mushrooms, carrots, peppers, tomatoes, and provolone cheese, served on wheat with pesto. There's also a hot spiced beef brisket sandwich that could be consumed for breakfast, if you're in the mood for brisket. The restaurant itself is not very large so be prepared for a wait - but it will definitely be worth it.
