Best Chinese Restaurants In Metro Detroit

Offering a wide variety of traditional Chinese dishes and American Chinese dishes, the Detroit area is filled with many great local Chinese restaurants. Check out this list for the best in the area.
New Peking Restaurant
29105 Ford Road
Garden City, MI 48135
(734) 425-2230
www.newpeking.us

New Peking is located near Ford Road and Middlebelt and is known for its crab rangoons and excellent entrees. Try its sizzling rice chicken, as well as the Kung Pao chicken, in particular. With more than 30 years of business under their belts, New Peking Restaurant has proven again and again that they know how to put together a delicious Chinese feast.

Shangri-La Authentic Chinese Cuisine
6407 Orchard Lake Road
West Bloomfield, MI 48322
(248) 626-8585
www.midtownshangri-la.com

Shangri-La has two locations, one in the heart of West Bloomfield (near Maple and Orchard Lake Road) and the other in Midtown Detroit. The West Bloomfield location is known for its dim sum, which is served at lunch time and also during late night (9pm to 2am). If you go during lunch, you are able to order off the carts. But if you go for late night, everything is made to order, and you have to request certain items. Make sure to arrive early, as the West Bloomfield location is often very crowded, especially on the weekends, as it's a popular place for Chinese food.

East Lake Chinese Restaurant
5087 Rochester Road
Troy, MI 48085
(248) 740-9522
www.eastlakerestaurant.com

East Lake is also known for its dim sum, and although it's a very large restaurant, it can get full on weekends. It's located on Rochester Road by Long Lake, in Troy, and the restaurant might easily be overlooked, as it's in a strip mall with a few other restaurants and shops. However, to overlook it would be a mistake, because its dim sum is excellent and ranges from traditional Chinese dishes to the more American. Combo plates and family-style dishes are also on the menu, and East Lake has banquet and catering services available too.

Wok Asian Bistro
144 Mary Alexander Court
Northville, MI 48167
(248) 719-7622
www.wokasianbistro.com

If you're looking for a more modern take on Asian food, check out Wok Asian Bistro, the youngest restaurant on this list. Wok uses all organic foods and offers a $10 lunch bundle, which includes salad, an appetizer (although small), entree and soda or tea. You can also order entrees off the dinner menu instead. The restaurant concept is similar to a Mongolian grill: you can choose to make your own bowl, or you can choose one of the "chef-inspired wok'd creations." Don't forget to try the crispy wonton strips for dessert, topped with your choice of caramel, chocolate or raspberry sauce.

Mui's Chinese Food Carryout
845 W. 14 Mile Road
Clawson, MI 48017
(248) 435-3920
www.muiscarryout.com

Mui's is a family-owned business in Clawson that only has carryout (no delivery and no ordering in). Prices are fair, especially for dinner, and portions are large. The crispy wontons that come with any soup order are sweet rather than salty (perhaps with some sort of duck sauce baked in), which is a surprising treat, and the takeout menu is extensive and ranges from chicken to beef to seafood. Mui's is located on 14 Mile between Crooks and N. Main St.
