Learning a new language has never been easier in Detroit. Here is a list of the best places to learn a wide variety of different languages in and around the Detroit area.

This is the best venue in the Detroit area to learn Chinese. The Chinese Language and Culture Center (CLCC) specializes in offering one-on-one training in both Chinese language and culture. Classes are offered at the center but can be set up on-site or in-home if needed at no extra charge. There are courses for basic and advanced language and culture training. Language courses take about six months and cultural training is "a program of highly concentrated instruction for two to three weeks." The most effective place to take language courses is at a university. Wayne State University offers a state-of-the-art language program. Teamed up with the Foreign Language Technology Center (FLTC), students get the most use of technology while learning a chosen language. The center summer hours are Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed Friday and the weekend. The university offers courses in several languages including Latin, German and East Asian languages. The average price of college credits is always rising, but one course will cost over $1000.

At Deutsche Schule Metro Detroit (DSMD), only the best courses for learning the German language are offered. The approach at this language center is to incorporate German language into the school curriculum. This allows students of all ages to learn German, including kindergarteners. The prices range from $400 to $950 for each year in the program, with shorter courses available. There is an online admissions application to get started. DSMD operates during normal school hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Although this place started by helping native Spanish-speaking students learn English, it now offers an amazing course in conversational Spanish for English-speaking students. The Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation (DHDC) has a 10-week program designed to teach the basics of holding a conversation in Spanish. The course costs $350 and has a 10-week rotational period. Sign up for the next rotation will be starting soon. DHDC also offers many other services including in-class tutoring and adult education.
